Designing Daughters of Sarasota, a charitable organization of young professional women dedicated to enhancing the community and cultivating the next generation of philanthropists, will host Hot Havana Nights, its annual gala, at 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Servandos, 1525 Fourth St., Sarasota. Attendees will step into a savvy modern-day Havana club for a surprise performance. The event will feature Cuban hors d’oeuvres, mojitos and cigar-rolling bars, as well as salsa and top 40 tunes. All proceeds will be awarded to local nonprofits. Last year, the group raised $43,000 and handed out 13 grants between $1,600 and $5,000.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County announced Wednesday that more than $2 million was raised to prevent homelessness through this year's Season of Sharing campaign. The funds will help more than 2,800 families in need stay in their homes throughout the year. Of the more than 2,900 gifts to Season of Sharing, 69 percent were $100 or less.

Fore the Love of Habitat, the signature fundraising event of Habitat for Humanity Sarasota, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, with an evening of laughter at McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre with comedian Keith Alberstadt. Tickets are $35. At 8:30 a.m. the next morning, Friday, April 8, a $1 million shoot-out at Laurel Oak Country Club will take place, followed by a scramble golf tournament. The price is $200 per player or $700 per foursome.

Employees at Abrams Dermatology has joined the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation One Walk TM to help fight Type 1 Diabetes. Abrams Dermatology is collecting donations from patients and office visitors to support the cause. The walk takes place April 9 at 8131 Lakewood Main St., Lakewood Ranch.

Bridge a Life, a local Christian nonprofit that brings hope to orphans by supporting foster and adoptive families through awareness, training, outreach and partnerships, will host its first annual fundraiser at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Polo Grill and Bar, 10670 Boardwalk Loop, Lakewood Ranch. The evening will include speakers who will highlight Bridge a Life’s local and global initiatives. Raffle and silent auction items will be available, along with authentic Ugandan food that can be sampled during the cocktail hour. In the 12th judicial circuit, there are currently 1,288 kids in foster care and only 118 licensed foster homes.
